Accountability and Community control
With municipalization, our utility will be owned by people who actually live in Loudoun. We are looking to bring back community control, allowing us to prioritize long term community health over short term profits. We will be able to invest in a smarter infrastructure buildout that can deliver power without sacrificing resident’s quality of life. By getting Dominion's money out of our politics, we can help build an energy grid and political system that is better for everyone.

Municipalization is the process of transferring control of our utilities from investor hands to Loudoun County Government. This is done by purchasing the existing infrastructure through negotiation or eminent domain. The utility will then be run directly by the Loudoun Government or a newly created public authority. This will get rid of the greed-based model of investor owned utilities, and return profits and control to the public

With our power infrastructure under community control, we can underground power lines that run through populated areas. By doing this, we not only protect resident’s quality of life, but we can also decrease the long term infrastructure maintenance cost. Under the current investor owned model, companies are incentivized to let maintenance costs balloon so they can charge ratepayers more and expand their profits. A public utility would not have these perverse incentives, letting us build a more equitable energy system.

Dominion Energy has spent millions buying our politicians. With a public utility, our politicians will be serving you and not Dominion. Instead of our utility bills going to buy out politicians, a public utility would be able to reinvest in the grid and into lowering utility rates.

Key decisions should be made here, not in board rooms and closed sessions in Richmond. With a public utility, we can have transparent public meetings, where citizens can speak directly to the decision makers. This will help to restore trust in our power grid and better democratize the process.
