Loudoun’s grid should serve the people, not the corporations
We believe that it is essential to put forward a positive policy solution to the problems that we face, not just engage in empty saber rattling. Public Power Loudoun is fighting for a utility that is owned by the public and is operated for the public good, not for the profits of a fortune 500 company. By municipalizing Dominion, we can remove the perverse profit incentives that currently exist and give residents a say in what goes on in their communities. Formed in the summer of 2026, we are a 100% people powered organization, with no corporate or billionaire backers. When people get organized, transformative change is possible.
Public utilities are not an untested idea, but a proven model that has produced better outcomes for citizens in the US for decades. Industry analysis shows that 15% of eclectic customers in the US already get their power from a public utility, and pay on average 14% less than customers of other utility types. It is important to point out the problems that we are facing, but it is also crucial to push for a better path forward. A publicly owned utility is that path forward. With your help we can help lower costs, build a more sustainable grid, and give people a say in how our grid is run.
We need to rethink our government’s data center policy
Along with our advocacy for a public utility, we are also pushing for a more sustainably run data center industry. We want greater offsets for developments, stricter noise enforcement, higher taxes on data centers, and for the industry to pay for their own power. Under the current investor owned utility model, we are paying the price for the data center’s immense power usage. That needs to change.
By passing rate increases on to data centers and increasing the taxes they pay, we can stop the county from being overrun by data centers and increase resident’s quality of life. We need an end to corporate tax subsidies and to build an economy that works for everyone. It is also essential to hold politicians that take money from data centers and private utilities accountable. Our politicians should be serving us, not corporate interest.
